MTN Pathetic customer service

In April and May this year I was charged R6000 for data usage on my modem. I have never, since 1996 when I took out my first contract with mtn, been charged such an astronomical amount. I called the call centre several times to query this and was told that they would look into the problem as it is impossible for me to be charged this - my data usage is capped at 2 Gb and nothing has changed in my internet usage. I kept getting sms notifications to say that I owed the amount and did not receive call centre feedback, so I kept calling. I was then disconnected. 20 June, after much threatening and frustration, I was transferred to the shift manager, Nompumelelo Mdletshe who acknowledged that there seemed to be an error, and said she would escalate the query to the billing department , reconnect me and and then give me feedback. Although I was reconnected I got no feedback. . I emailed her several more times, as well as the call centre and although my email was read I received no reply. I also phoned through. Please note that at no stage did I NOT pay my monthly bill. Then at the beginning of September I was again disconnected for not paying. Again after several phone calls to the call centre, Pauli told me that Nompumelelo had not escalated my query to the correct department and that she would do so and would let me know what was happening. I was reconnected. Now today i received an sms once again threatening to disconnect me and legal action. What next!!! I did NOT use R6000 worth of data and mtn have made no attempt to rectify their error.

Hi there Zukiswa.

Firstly, please be advised that I have never touched my usage limit until AFTER I was charged that astronomical amount. . In an attempt to ensure there is no such repeat, I tried to adjust the usage to ensure it could not exceed R300. Even that was not captured correctly!

My contract indicated that my modem usage was to be capped at 2 Gb. If it went over this, which I do not believe it did, why was it not stopped by MTN? And to add to this, there is just no possibility of my usage sky rocketing for one single month considering nothing in my internet use had changed.

Taking these facts into account, I will not be paying the outstanding amount until I have proof of what the data was used for, as I believe it has been incorrectly allocated to my account.

I will continue to pay my monthly bill and will be extremely disappointed if I am YET AGAIN disconnected!!
