MTN online data deal

I app**** for an online data deal at MTN and they delivered a SIM card.They said you can cancel it anytime it’s not a contract.I paid my for them they didn’t upload data and I decided not to pay by the following month but they claim that I owe them and the money keeps increasing.I communicated trying to cancel the deal they said I need to pay what I owe them before they cancel the deal
