MTN Online Cell phone Upgrade and Call Centre services are probably the worst in the country. About a month ago I was looking to upgrade my cell phone handset. The local MTN branch didn't have what I was looking for. I went online, something I now regret doing. Several of the handsets I selected were marked as "out of stock" . I eventually found a Huawei product that I liked and selected it. Several days later, a kind lady from MTN sales called me and did her best to convince me that the Huawei brand was not a good brand due to USA software bans on the brand. Why then offer the brand to your clients? She then recommended a brand "Hero" which I haven't heard of before which are technically equal to the Huawei I selected. I agreed to it. A week later, a courier company arranged with me for delivery at a specific time on 4 Nov 23. I cancelled an appointment to be able to receive the phone in person, The driver pitched up late and when he wanted to perform the biometric ID, his equipment would not function. He refused to hand over the phone. He left with it. I called MTN 135 call centre, only to be transferred several times and holding on for 20 minutes. Eventually I spoke to a lady at "retentions" who promised to rectify the problem. Today I called again, was sent from pillar to post again by operators that could barely speak clearly. After holding on and being cut of/hanged up upon three times, I ended up at "retentions" only to be referred to sales where I started from. I was disconnected. I gave up as I wasn't getting anywhere. I decided to take a chance on the courier company Head Office and was helped in a matter of minutes. The phone was sitting at their branch and they were awaiting instructions. We'll have another attempt on delivery on 13 Nov 23. It seems MTN couldn't be bothered that the phone wasn't delivered. It was just sitting there on the courier's shelves. I don't recommend upgrading a cell phone through MTN online at all. Their service is sub standard.
