On 12 January I went from prepaid to a contract and requested a number for life. After this being escalated 4 times it was eventually done on Saturday 26 February! However, I have been told throughout the process to keep my old sim card in my phone as the contract details will be moved from the new SIM to the old one. On Saturday I was kicked off the MTN network with no warning and no clue what was going on. I obviously couldn't make calls and had to wait till today to call them. I was told my number for life had been done and loaded on the new SIM card.
I put the new SIM in my phone and now the number I wanted to keep does not work if people try to call me or send me an SMS. I can call out however. The call centre agent says they can not pick up any reason why and they have to escalate my call to the technical department which can take up to 72 hours for it to be sorted out.
I cannot wait for another 72 hours to have a phone that works properly. I have now paid two contract installments and still don't have a properly working phone.
MTN really needs to train their staff properly. I have had conflicting information from almost every agent I have spoken to. I had a lady in the activations department leave me on hold for nearly half an hour on Friday 25 February without letting me know what was going on while I was on hold. She clearly didn't want to deal with my issue and thought she'd just put me on hold until I have up.
I've been with MTN as a prepaid customer for many years and never had a reason to complain but this has honestly been a terrible experience and I am truly regretting it! Not a great start at all MTN.
