MTN not cancelling insurance for 3 months as per request
I just thought I would share my issue in hopes that it may protect others from dealing with the same issue.
My MTN contract expired around September 2017, but since I was due for upgrade sooner I had changed my contract to a monthly contract even before this. I will have to check my records for the exact date. I had been given a new handset as a hand me down, which was already better then my current device, so I decided to not bother upgrading and rather move to a basic month to month package just for minutes and data. I at this stage mentioned that I would no longer need the insurance "bolt on" as I was no longer using the same cellphone. This was understood and I was told that a basic 2 gigs data 100 minutes contract would cost me R370 on a month to month basis. I thought this was pricey, but went ahead with it anyway. Last week a colleage took out a new contract with Telkom for about R250 a month incuding an iPhone 6. I'm not sure of the minutes and data he gets, but I told him I was paying about 50% more then that and not even getting a handset. This pushed me to rather upgrade since I was loosing money on a month to month contract. I think went into MTN to upgrade to an iPhone X and they said there was a shortage of new phones and so there was basically no reason for upgrading. I asked how my monthly cost could be so high without even having a handset on the contract. The MTN employee then mentioned to me that it was due to my handset insurance. I told him that I had cancelled the handset insurance several months back and in fact my handset is already covered under private insurance. Anyway this was only successfully cancelled this morning, but I have lost R150 odd monthly for this. Paying for no service. I do feel quite cheated...
