MTN - My Terrible Network

On 13 December 2016 we discovered that my husband's SMS service was not working. He can receive SMS's, but cannot send. We have done everything possible, which included checking the device, battery, sim card, settings, rebooting the device - nothing works. I reported this to the MTN Customer Care number on the morning of 13.12.16, and was given ref. SMC/ ********** 5907, and told "someone will resove this within 2-72 hours, and you will be contacted". On the 15.12.16 I made a follow-up call; sorry, I am told, it is not 72 hours yet. On the 19.12.16 I call again - the customer care (what care???) consultant asks me who told me 2-72 hours, because this takes 7 days. Seeing as we were then on day 6, she instructed me to call back the next day. At this point I had complete sense of humour failure - REALLY!!! Well, needless to say, and so typical of big business, they happily take your money every month, but cannot be bothered to provide ALL the services one pays for. MTN - your service is non-existent, your consultants unhelpful and arrogant, and today, 04.01.17, his SMS service is still not working (unable to send). I will start proceedings to port his cell phone number, and seeing as he is the MD of the company, this means every single line will be ported. It is now 22 days later - you must have *********** technicians who cannot resolve a simple issue, or at least have the courtesy to give feedback, it is appalling that you have done NOTHING about resolving a complaint. This is an insult to your customer, and the industry, quite frankly, you are too big for your boots, as you clearly do not care about your customers ... a reminder that without customers you are nothing, but then perhaps you don't care about losing a few lines. My husband is furious, and utterly disgusted in you, and so am I. Service is dead at MTN.

Good day
Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns and affording us the opportunity to address same.
As per our records and the SMC ref number ***, we have established that you don not have sufficient airtime in sending out any messages.
Please be advised that you will need to increase your limit in order to send out messages.
We sincerely hope that the above is in order and that we are able to restore your faith in us

Best regards,
What utter nonsense you talk.!! No, this is not in order, and NO, our faith in you is not restored. The contract is a business contract, and he has always been able to send SMS's until we noticed this problem which started sometime in December. This is a TALK500 business contract; it is not pre-paid, and does not have limited minutes or airtime, it is an OPEN line, so even if the number of minutes, data is exceeded, you then bill out of bundle rates. If you do not want to lose this business, I suggest you do what any company who VALUES their customers does, and you pick up a phone and call me on ***

I have sent you a private reply, but the following I am happy to say to you here, seeing as you have the audacity to say "you do not have sufficient airtime" - you are talking utter nonsense, NO, we have no faith in you, and NO, your reply is not in order. Just because you responded to my post, you think everthing is alright. Go and learn the basics of customer service, you have no clue.

Tonight I called 808 and spent about an hour on the phone trying to resolve the issue of not being able to send SMS's. Eventually I got put through to Jodash Pillay ( supposed team manager). ... he assured me the matter had been resolved as this had been caused due to the account mysteriously having been given a ZERO limit. He said he had created a limit if R1000, this is what I authorized, even though you people made this mistake in the first place - of course a system error is to blame and you being MTN, I don't expect any other excuse - this one fits the 'pathetic' bill perfectly. Jodash says to restart the phone and then the SMS will work.
Well Jodash, you must manage the losing team (consider joining the Springboks?) because it STILL DOES NOT WORK. You should be ashamed of yourself as you are a poor adverti*****t for your company.
I am furious and have no more words - you people are seriously defective, there is no way of putting this nicely.

At this point I expect a call from your CEO, I think that 15 years of paying his salary should justify it.

And up to this point - close of business on 10 January 2017 - still no response from you and SMS is still not working. How is it that you - MTN - get away with your pathetic service, and you, without conscience, take customers' money without providing SERVICE? HAVE YOU NO SHAME? This is an absolute disgrace and you just don't care. Shocking. Your staff are clearly incapable and your managers totally disinterested. If this was your cell phone and you experienced these problems, would you be happy?
