MTN month to month package ****

Good day, I am really disappointed by MTN. Their Facebook page advertises a month to month WIFI (NO CONTRACT) package and when I apply online I get a call from their consultants and they always tell me that they will call back after 5 minutes and they never do and it's over 6 times now that I have app**** and getting the same response and when I go to the MTN Shop for assistance I am told that they are using a new system which shows that I have an overdue contract which was over 8 years ago and I paid it off and it's not updated on their records hence I can't be offered the month to month deal. I was referred to their collections and customer service departments and no joy from both of them and I have now lost interest in the package and considering to apply with another SP. Please correct me if I am a wrong, a month to month package is not a contract right so why should go through so much trouble for a pay as you use service that I can cancel anytime?
