MTN mobile data disappears when mobile data is disabled

With lock down I am at home all the time and have WiFi on. I purchased 1Gb of data but saw it was reducing very fast, so I disabled mobile data. When I check again a day later it had reduced even further. How is this possible. Are MTN ripping us off. Has any one else had the same problem.
