MTN mess up after mess up costing me dearly

I previously wrote a review outling my issues with MTN regarding data and double billing. You can read it here:

https://hellopeter.com/mtn/reviews/unexplained-massive-bills-with-no-way-of-resolution-double-debits-of-r37k-and-incorrect-debits-loaded-for-december- **********

After fighting with them on a daily basis, with broken promises of refunding I finally went to the Innovation Centre in Johannsburg (I am based in Cape Town) to get a refund for the R37,000 that was double debited on 21 December through a clerical error on my side. At this point I was told that they had not received my bank statements that I sent twice already. When giving it to them again they told me that they needed to check with the bank that the funds would not be returned, in spite of the fact that it was more than 15 days since the payment was deduced *******ly from my account. Trust me, if the bank could have actioned the refund in the first place I would not be dealing with MTN directly.

I was promised that it would be done by today. I received a notification that they paid me R25,752 and not the R37,000 that they *******ly took out my account. The explanation for this is that there was an outstanding amount on my account. This in spite of the fact that I made a payment arrangement with the person who loaded the R37,000 incorrectly to pay the outstanding amount over three months starting at the end of January. Needless to say there is no record on their side that the payment arrangement was made and the attitude is one of "the person did not do it, sorry".

In addition to this, when querying why my account was allowed to rack up a bill so high in the first place they gave me a BS story that they are only able to view data usages after a session finishes. They are saying that I had one continuous data session over a period of four days, even though the logs indicate breaks of usage over periods of 8 hours or more. Although they admit that my account should not have been allowed to go up to the amount that it did, "the system" did not pick up the error in time. How on earth do they manage pre-paid data usage if they are not able to pick up data usage before a session has ended????

I am so fed up with MTN and I am stuck with them. I need to pay in to get out of a contract with them, even though they have messed up over and over again, they shoulder no responsibility for their mess ups and do not take into consideration any damage that they have done to my credit record, my standing with the bank and the distress they have caused me.

It is impossible to escalate anything at MTN. Even posting on social media gets someone asking for my details so that they can resolve, but no call backs. They try to manage their brand, but cannot effectively manage their customers.

Whatever you do, do not ever choose MTN as a service provider.
