MTN making it impossible to cancel a contract

I have been trying to cancel a contract I have with MTN and been put on hold for over 30 minutes and had my call dropped. Tried phoning again and was told only way to cancel it through the call centrem which then transfers to retentions section but they never answer the phone or drop the call before been helped.
