MTN LTE Nightmare (Worst Telco) – I’m Done!

If I could give half a star, I would! From the moment I app**** for an LTE home service on a month-to-month basis, it’s been nothing but frustration.

It all started with a mysterious charge on my first invoice—one that absolutely NO ONE at MTN could explain. After countless calls to 083 135 (where you hold for over an hour), all I got was: “We don’t know, and don’t call back.” Yet, debit orders? Oh, those go off like clockwork!

I even tried walking into my nearest MTN store, only to be told: “Sorry, we can’t help you. This was done online.” Translation? “We just sell, we don’t deal with problems.”

The Final Straw? We work from home and rely on this service. This morning, without warning, our connection was just switched off. The LTE router wouldn’t power on, wouldn’t engage—nothing, even after troubleshooting.

After yet another dreaded call to 083 135, I was told that MTN increased the bandwidth in our area and because I’m on a 20Mbps line, my router is now obsolete. But don’t worry! Just pop into any MTN store, and they’ll sort it out with a new router.

Sounded too good to be true—and it was.

I called the store 20 minutes later, and—surprise, surprise—“Sorry, we can’t help you. You need to cancel your contract, take out a new one, and pay once-off fees plus pro-rata, which comes to R1000… in cash… today.”

No thanks, MTN. You can keep it. I’M DONE!

Fast forward 20days later matter sorted! Only because I had to get my LAWYER involved. They sent an email of demand for at least a response on a time frame. Less than 24 hours later, I received and email "Contract Cancelled, apologies for inconvenience caused."

All I say is, scrutinize your Ts & Cs and YOUR MONTHLY invoices. I've given up fighting with MTN. Will never do business with them again, nor will I EVER advocate for them.... goodbye to bad customer service.
