MTN - Logic and Common Sense Escapes Them, So Does Customer Service

MTN take over contracts once owned by Altech AutoPage. Before this happens, i call Altech to let them know that i want a R0 limit set to my data so that NO excess data charges are created. They confirm that this is done and i move on with my life only to discover that they charged me for excess data that very same month.

So i contact them again, to explain the same story and and end of April i expect to see no charges only to discover that i was again debited in excess from Altech. I then contact them and they confirm the will give a refund.

I call MTN and advise them a month in advance that the above happened and that i want to avoid that. They confirm that they've noted everything and they debit me over triple my monthly charges in data that same month.

I call MTN 2 weeks ago and this is where the epic battle to get my own money begins. MTN confirm that Altech have refunded me however i confirm that ive received no money from them. I inform them that they also need to process a refund as they have also made the same mistake.

I have now spoken to agents and Supervisors to no avail as they either have a tough time understanding the simple logic of "you messed up, fix it" explaining that they need to investigate when clearly Altech have confirmed they will refund me for the same mistake, or the simply terminate the call in my hear before i even got to use profanity.

I have asked to speak to supervisors and they are ALWAYS busy or in a meeting (at the same time, all of them). I ask to speak to a manager as highlighted on their escalation guide online, and NEVER get granted this "honour". I send the Ombudsman an email and NOTHING.

The request is simple:

- I asked for a cap to be added - this was not done

- i call to inform them of the mistake and they dont fix it for 2 months all the while taking my money

- I call MTN to avoid this and they cant even prevent issues let alone fix them

- I call MTN to get my refund from both Altech and MTN based on their FULL ADMISSION of their mess-up, and a simple refund has now become impossible

- each time i call in im told it was escalated, however NOTHING is different from a normal query compared to an escalation? instead, my call gets terminated EVERY SINGLE TIME

- MTN say they need to investigate if i added the cap and when i point out that they are refunding me for their mistake, so what investigation needs to be conducted??

- This is not dragging on for months in trying to resolve the issue, and just over 2 weeks to resolve the issue of getting close R3000 given back to me

I need somebody with an ounce of common sense at MTN to do SOMETHING, ANYTHING because they have even gone to lengths of deleting my Facebook posts crying out for help!

I would love to discuss my refund to its fullfillment and termination of my contrat with no break fees due to the VERY unpleasant experience with clowns in an office or what MTN calls a business.

Good Day Mr Carl Humphries

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. According to our records an amount of R 975.86 was refunded to you by Autopage. A billing query was also logged with MTN's Billing department for the invoices that finalized with us however we are unable to credit as the Usage Limit was changed a few times from the phone itself by dialing a USSD string *141*5#Ok.

We also see that you have disputed the amount credited by Autopage and another escalation has been sent to them.

Rest assured that it is not our intention to displease you and we look forward to continue improving on our service delivery to you.

Kind Regards
Itumeleng

Hi Itumeleng, I have tried dialing the USSD string you provided and this does not allow me to change any kind of limit so i'm failing to understand how the limit could have been changed? If however i am mistaken by this, could you please provide me with a log as to when and how frequently this has been changed according to your records. I would also like a break down of how the total of R975 was reached if you don't mind. Thanks, Carl H
