MTN likes to blame the victim of theft
Late yesterday morning I recieve and sms "Yello, you have been subscribed to music TV @ R2/day". Needless to say I had done no such thing. I immediately phoned MTN's help line where I was assured that I was not subscribed to any services according to their system. Today I recieve an sms from MTN saying that I had been billed R2 for this "service". I phoned MTN's help line again, where I'm informed that actually I was subscribed to this service. MTN claim that they can only "request" that the subscription is cancelled, but further than that they can do nothing to help, I must phone a number in JHB between 9am and 4pm weekdays to report my problem, until then the billing will continue. MTN refuses to reverse the ********** charges to my account. The consultant from MTN said that I had "sent a command" from my phone to subscribe to the service, so it wasn't their problem. Except, at the time that I received the first sms my phone was sitting on a desk, on it's charger, unused, where it had been since the previous evening.
MTN's tactic here seems to be to blame the victim of ***** and to do nothing to stop it. They are allowing third party companies to bill their subscribers accounts without the slightest evidence that their subscribers have consented to it. This makes MTN 100% complicit in the crime.
