MTN LIES THAT CONTRACT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

I had an MTN cellphone contract which expired last year and i requested a cancellation for it. I received several emails stating that i had an outstanding amount i had to pay before my contract could be cancelled.

I then paid the required amount and received confirmation that my contact had been cancelled from MTN, Reference Number - ***6. Although i paid the outstanding fee i still received monthly statement from MTN to say i should pay some more - i called the Call Center multiple times to query this. The first few times the MTN call center was on strike and i could not get hold of anyone. Eventually i got through to a consultant who told me that although i had paid up my account and my contract had been cancelled the
Legal department still had to cancel this contract from their side therefore i must ignore the statements and give MTN time to process the cancellation.
This morning i received a letter from the legal department saying i have an outstanding amount i must pay again - how can there be another outstanding amount on a cancelled contract that was paid
in full in 2015?
