MTN Law unto itself

Totally disgusted with MTN!! My father passed away in Oct 2017, he was on a pre paid since 2008 ( Phone was a Xmas gift to him). He never upgraded or changed. My mother passed away 2 weeks after my dad. Subsequently we have kept the phone due to stay up to date with any contacts and due to dealing with an estate that is complicated. Suddenly the phone is not registered on the MTN network so I called the call centre only to be told that if a sim card is not used for 90 days MTN AUTOMATICALLY disconnects it and the number will be made available for someone else!! On what basis does MTN have the right to disconnect a sim card that has been in use for over 10 yrs! The consultant then tells me that it is stipulated on the side of the starter pack! My late mother was in a coma for a month, so let us assume she or anyone else has the misfortune of being in a coma for 90 days MTN will just AUTOMATICALLY discontinue their number. To add to it, whomever now gets the my parent's old number will be getting all personal sms's pertaining to the estate/ lawyers/ banks etc. WELL FREAKING DONE MTN!!

This is the standard MTN response to EVERY similar complaint regarding this. You keep referring to your T's and C's. I have bought several pre paid sims over a period and NOT ONCE have I been notified of these T's and C's and to my knowledge T's and C's need to be agreed to so can you please let me know on what basis you have the agreement of the client to these T's and C's. So if someone is travelling overseas ( like they do) for a period longer than 3 months you just automatically recycle the number. Someone is ill and incapacitated for that period of time the same thing without ANY PRIOR warning to the client and by doing so you compromise the privacy of the user as most sim cards are connected to whatsapp and to social media accounts. Surely a longer term on non use would be advisable. Your standard response to all of the complaints is actually quite insulting.
