MTN issuing new data cards on recycled numbers - receiving spam and calls
<p>I recently took out a data sim card with MTN. Immediately on inserting the card in my phone I started receiving spam messages and phone calls - mostly from lawyers looking for someone - not always the same person. I went back to the MTN store to complain and I was told that the number was a recycled one could be changed to stop this from happening but it would cost me over R200 to do that. What kind of **** is running here? Surely my phone number is private unless I want to opt in for advertising!?</p>

We are terribly sorry for the inconveniences that you experienced as a result of this. We completely understand the frustration it causes.
Kindly note that network companies are allocated numbers by the Regulatory board and they abide by the Regulatory board’s number efficiency policy, if a pool of numbers allocated by the board is depleted, and if a sim is dormant for 90 days the sim is deactivated and the number is recycled and allocated to a new sim card.

Being sorry doesn't help me at all! What do you intend doing about the problem? If I would have been informed that I would have these kind of issues up front I would have been able to decide if I wanted to be the recipient of time wasting spam messages and phone calls, I don't have time for nonsense like this. The other option is cancel the contract and refund me for what I have spent (travelling up and down to the store, wasted time, fuel etc) and I will look for another company that will give me better service and not mislead me. I feel that I was misled into spending money to waste my own time. Please don't fob me off with what you are allowed to do, I don't care, that's not what I purchased - this is actually false advertising.
