MTN is *****ing from a pensioner and altering my financial limits
I'm writing this after 3 calls to 135 (MTN Customer Contact Centre) have failed to resolve my issue. On 29/5/2020 11:00 a.m. I received an SMS informing me my subscription to InConcert failed due to insufficient funds. At no point had I subscribed to this, or received any SMSs confirming a subscription or informing me I had subscribed. I thought this was a **** and ignored the SMS. When I received my June bill I saw that I had been billed for content services. I called 135 (ticket number ***) on 10/6/2020 and informed them I never subscribed to InConcrt. I was informed that this query would be handed over to Portal Services and they would get back to me in 2-3 days time. I cancelled the InConcert service via USSD. After hearing nothing for over 2 weeks I called MTN 135 again (ticket number ***). I was given the same feedback and told no refund had been given but someone would contact me in 2-3 days. Needless to say, as with the first call, no one bothered to get back to me. At 2:30 a.m. on 8/6/2020 I received an SMS thanking me for subscribing to Hungama Play. I can assure everyone that I did not subscribe to this service and was fast asleep at the time. I did not receive an SMS asking me to confirm I wanted to subscribe. The subscription, as with InConcert, was done without my consent. So once again I called MTN 135 to query this and previous tickets. Unfortunately I did not get a ticket number for this call. To cut a long story short the response by the call centre was beyond pathetic. She was almost saying it was my fault/issue for subscribing to these services and that it's not a big deal and I should just cancel the services. She agreed that people should receive consent and informative SMSs for any service anyone subscribes to. At no point did I receive these SMSs and at no point did I consent to these subscriptions. Not the best of customer service, I can assure you. There is another part of this problem which is very concerning to me and should be equally concerning to all MTN subscribers. Apart from being ****med out of money by MTN and the thieving ********* service providers who MTN condone, it would appear that MTN are enabling the theft of my money. On my account I have a facility labelled Recurring Spend Limit. I have set this low to prevent large amounts of money being billed to my account in situations such as this. When I went to check my recent billing and account info I saw that it had been increased from the limit I set! As I did not do this it could only have been done by MTN. Why was this done without my knowledge or consent? Not only is MTN allowing us to be ****** but they are helping these ****** to ***** more. MTN - who changed this limit and why? This person should be fired for changing a client's financial limits. So after 3 calls, which were a complete waste of time, I have made no progress. I have no answers for any of my questions. I have been an MTN customer for so many years I have forgotten how long exactly. I now find myself in a position where I do not trust my cell phone provider MTN. They certainly don't appear to have my best interests at heart. Just to let you know - you and your *****ed buddies are *****ing from a pensioner, I'm on a fixed income and can't afford things like this. It's' probably not a lot of money to MTN but it means something to me. Allowing me to be subscribed to services I did not consent to, pathetic customer service, no follow up and changing my financial limits without my consent - shame on you!
