MTN is so desparate that it forces customers into ******* contracts
My account with MTN lapses in March. I've been with MTN for over a decade and my account covers my phone and my daughter's. In January I started to get calls from MTN sales offering an upgrade. I said no I would wait until March (also to give my daughter time to arrage her own contract), but it appears that on 9 Jan my daughter's number was "upgraded" and then on 10 Jan my number was "upgraded". How could this happen when both numbers were covered by one contract? I also received no less than 44 emails from MTN between 5-24 Jan. On 19 Jan after a lot of difficulty I talked to a person in Direct Sales and told them to cancel any "new contracts" as I had (1) not agreed to anything (2) not received an offer in writing to agree to. The contract I am being forced to accept is only for data - in my job I need telephony too. On the 19 Jan I was told that the new "contract" would be cancelled. This was a lie. I have been trying to get my new "contract" annuled. I have visited the MTN shops, they refer me to Direct Sales which either drop my call or refer me on - yesterday to the ***** department which seems very appropriate, given that forcing customs into a contract they have not agreed to is ***** and contrary to SA law, but of course they would not help and just referred me back to direct sales.
