MTN is only interested in making money off us and they can’t help their clients
On Saturday June the 16th l upgraded my MTN contract for which account l have held since 1999. I upgraded from an IPhone 7 to an IPhone X. The upgrade was smooth, successful and informative. One of the recommendations was that l should see to it that l run the battery down first which l did the whole Saturday. I only got to use the charger to charge my phone for the first time on Sunday. In the process of charging l tried to remove the charger off the phone and at this juncture l realized that the head of the charger did not discharge with the rest of the charger, it snapped and remained inside the phone. On Tuesday June the 19th l went to MTN to report my ordeal and that is when the nightmare started. In no uncertain terms l was informed by MTN that there was nothing they could do form as their prognosis was saying it was physical damage. When l pushed for answers as to why the charger would break in one day l was further advised that management was saying if insist with this action they would revoke the warranty that l enjoyed on a new device. I was threatened that they would book the charger in with their repairs Centre and the verdict would be that it was a physical damage resulting in me losing the warranty that new phone enjoys. I was advised to buy a new charger and walk away. I made the long walk of shame out of MTN embarrassed, dejected and foolish. I felt bul**** by a big corporate once again, clearly all l am good for is that they should just make money off us and when it comes to them doing a little bit for their clients looks like a big deal. How could there have been physical damage on the charger in one day, l am confused. Can someone save me from MTN, l don’t understand.
