MTN is inhumane. Daylight *******!
MTN is DAYLIGHT *******!! 2 weeks ago I went to an mtn store to get an internet contact for my mom on a farm. Using her address we chose a package which covered her area.
On the day they charged me as follows: pro rata for march + the full amount for April (I had to choose my debit order date before I knew they were basically going to charge me for almost two months upfront) + the router. I was shocked I had to pay two months and since I'd chosen the 1st (you only get a handful of days you're allowed to use as your debit order date and none of them are after the 15th of the month), I was told that on April 1st, I'd be charged for May. I was pretty irritated on the day but I'd already gone so far in the process, so I went forward.
Fast forward to the next week, my mom receives the router and it does not work. I go into the store, we call the call centre. I spend an hour on the phone - nothing is resolved - according to them everything looks like it's working but they admitted that none of the assigned data has been used. I spend another 2-3 hours on the phone, trying resets and unplugging and replugging but the router never provided internet AT ALL. So, my mom packed up the router and sent it back to me, as it needs to be returned to the store where the contract was initiated.
I got it today, two weeks after I opened the contract, and took it into the store. Only to be told, that the router will be taken somewhere and tested before the contract is cancelled. This would take between 3-5 working days and since my debit order is on the 1st, if it's not completed by then, I'll be charged for May as well. When I asked how that was possible? Surely they'd be refunding me for April at least (it is March 25th today), and not charge me for May, they said they do not give refunds, and since my debit order it on the 1st, they may even charge me for May if they don't get the cancellation done in time.
So this means, I may have ended up paying them for a modem I've returned two weeks after I took out the contract, at best one and two thirds of a month or worse, two and two thirds of a month, without receiving ANY actual connectivity or service from them AT ALL.
This is honestly disgusting. I can not believe the level of theft at play here. MTN is inhumane.
