MTN Is a Waste of Valuable Time

I signed a contract with MTN and receieved my iPhone 6 Plus on 1 August 2016. Everything was great and I was so relieved to finally have a phone again due to the fact that my previous ol' faithful, the iPhone 4, fell on the floor and shattered.

Day one of having my phone I discover that the iSight camera cannot focus and produces a wave effect. Thinking that it was a setting I accidentally put on, I Googled how to get rid of it. I discovered that I was not the only one- a lot of these phones distributed between November 2014 and January 2015 had this problem and were recalled! I typed the serial number of my phone onto Apple's website and got the response that I had expected- my phone is "eligible for this program".

On Day 2 I went to MTN Canal Walk (the one next to Clicks) and waited 45 minutes for help. The woman looked at me as if I was crazy and told me that they have never heard of this problem- as if I was lying. I told her to go onto Apple's website and see for herself, which she completely ignored, and I told her that she can go upstairs to the iStore because they knew exactly what I was talking about (which she also ignored because she was too busy filling someone else's contract out while I was sitting there). Eventually she told me that they have stock of the iPhone 6 Plus (in Rose Gold and Grey) and now I must wait for some other guy who will replace my faulty phone, which I did for half an hour and then he told me to wait for some other woman, who rudely told me to go to the MTN upstairs (across from Mr Price) because apparently only THEY have stock.

The MTN upstairs was much better. The guy was friendly and he physically showed us that they have NO iPhone 6 Plus' in stock in SOUTH AFRICA. He apologised and recommended that I go to the MTN store outside of Canal Walk (by the Shell garage) as that is the one where I signed the contract and they would be the only ones who can order a new phone in for me. By that time I had been in Canal Walk for three hours and the other MTN was already closed, so that would have to be done the next day.

I left Canal Walk after three hours of being sent on a wild goose chase with NOTHING. I am so disappointed, as the first person who had helped me could have told me that they had no stock. It was a massive waste of time on the only day off that I had that week. Secondly, why did MTN give me a faulty phone? The problem was noticed and recalled over a year ago. The serial number should have been checked and it should have been sent back.

MTN is a big waste of time. They are inefficient and I regret taking a contract out with them. I have a seven day guarantee yet it will take two or more weeks to bring the new phone in.

I recommend Vodacom to anyone who wants to take a contract out, even though they are more expensive at least you'll have a working phone and good service.
