MTN International Calls

Since 2016, I have been failing to make calls to SOME Econet Zimbabwe numbers from MTN South Africa. I called the MTN contact centre several times in the past two years and still could not be helped. If I send TEXT messages to the same Econet Zimbabwe numbers from MTN South Africa, they go through. The problem is VOICE calls. They don’t go through to those specific numbers. MTN has tossed me around from the contact Centre, to the Technical Department, to the walk in shops (MTN Northgate Mall in Johannesburg and MTN Fourways Mall in Johannesburg). No one to date has been able to help me. The people in the walk in centres also tried to call the same numbers in Zimbabwe from their work simcards but couldn’t get through. I have engaged Econet Zimbabwe on the same matter and they have categorically specified that this is a problem on the MTN Network. Ironically I can receive calls on the MTN Network from the same Econet Zimbabwe numbers that l am not able to call from South Africa.

I am able to make calls to those Zimbabwean numbers from other networks such as Vodacom, Cell C, 8ta, Neotel and Telkom. It is only MTN that is not able to connect to those international calls. I have even taken Cell C and Vodacom sim cards to MTN shops just to show the consultants that this is an MTN problem but my queries have fallen on deaf ears for the pass two years.

The only time that I have managed to call those Econet Zimbabwe numbers using my MTN simcard is when I am not in South Africa and using International Roaming, in which case that is not MTN Network. All these facts I have explained to MTN representatives in the past two years and guess what, these things are falling on deaf ears.

Please, may someone at MTN help me. I don’t think in this day and age I have to bed MTN to give me a service! If MTN does not have competent people and infrastructure to attend to this problem, may someone in the telecoms industry please drill some sense to the executives at MTN.

It has been 10 days since my post above. Still no one has called me or contacted me to explain if anything is being done about this. I guess no one at MTN cares about it; the same way it has been over the past two years. I am disappointed!!!
