MTN Insurance is a brought day light *******

My phone was insured with MTN and I lost my phone on the 28/12/2021 and my mother decided to take an upgrade on the other number. My insurance became null and void because of that. We have been paying insurance for both gadgets. How does it happen that the insurance of the other phone is affected by the upgrade of the other number.
