I had a data contract with MTN. When it expired, I was called to upgrade. I told the lady on the phone that I did not want to upgrade and that they must cancel it. I used to pay R300 monthly for that contract.
A month after it expired, they took R2 118 from my account, which I later reversed. I went to the shop the next morning, and they told me my contract had been changed to a month-to-month contract without contacting me without any agreement with me, which is why the amount was now R2 118 and not R300.
I asked them to cancel my contract since it had already expired. They said it would take 30 days and that I would also have to pay another R2 118 in January. They then told me to call MTN on 135. When I called, the consultant advised me to upgrade my contract to avoid being charged R2 118. He said I should take a month-to-month contract that I could cancel at any time, and that I would only be charged R199 for 50GB.
On Monday, my SIM card was cut off because I’m “in arrears” for the R2 118, even though their consultant told me I would not be charged that amount if I upgraded my contract.
