MTN & HUAWEI SCHEME - THEFT !!!
I recently had to upgrade my cell phone contract with MTN. I have two contracts, one for myself and one for my wife. I opted to upgrade both contract on the 2nd March 2019. The phone I upgraded to was the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. This increased my contract by R 200 each. So a total increase of R 400.00, which I was happy to pay provided I get what was sold to me. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro was offered at R 779.00 PM, and the first 4000 customers to purchase or upgrade to this phone would receive a free Huawei Smart Watch. The free smart watch is the only reason I considered this, as paying an additional R 400 PM is quite a bit of change with the current economy. Never the less I signed up based on the fact that I would be receiving a free Huawei watch for each contract. The special offer started the 1st March (which was a Friday), and I was in the MTN store at Clearwater first thing the Saturday morning. Huawei had a representative in the MTN store who checked with his superiors at Huawei, and he confirmed I was amongst the first and definitely qualified for the free watch. Seeing as he had confirmed I was in first 100 to take up the offer, and all I had to do to qualify is to advise Huawei of the purchase by providing them with my new Phone's serial number, I was assured I'll definitely be getting my watch within 30 days. Today as at the 10th April 2019, I'm still waiting. I've spent plenty of hours on the phone either with MTN, or Huawei Head office. I've been to the MTN store 3 times to try and get this resolved, and as at today, I'm still waiting for any type of feedback. The MTN guys have assisted with providing the required documents to Huawei, but regrettably they failed to deliver on what they had promised. I'm aware this is largely due to Huawei dropping the ball, but in the end this product was sold by MTN and my dealings was with MTN. This seems to be nothing other than good old fashioned theft. I will be returning both these phones to Clearwater and cancelling both contracts. No further deductions will be honoured from my account. MTN has failed to deliver on what they had promised on, therefore our agreement in my eyes is null and void.
