MTN - How can they brighten my day with zero accountability and professionalism?
I took out a contract with MTN by requesting a deal online in the middle of April. I was subsequently contacted by a call centre to agree the terms of the contract (during which I explicitly stated that I wish to port my existing Telkom prepaid number to my new MTN contract sim, and the call centre agent said that I would just need to contact the activations department once I receive my sim and phone to arrange the porting.
I received my phone on 20 April, and when I called activations to request the port they were unable to do so, stating that my new sim has already been activated. When I approached the MTN store at V&A waterfront for assistance, they turned me away almost immediately, saying that they cannot assist with contracts that were sold via the call centre. When I called the call centre again (Mondo), they advised that I need to purchase an MTN prepaid SIM, port my Telkom number to the MTN prepaid sim and then request Number for Life to get my contract moved to my original number.
I followed these steps on 26 April, and when my port was completed on 28 April, I called activations to request Number for Life and the consultant said it would be completed in 3 to 5 business days. Upon enquiring on 5 May, the consultant said that nothing had been done, and that he would escalate the matter for it to be resolved in 48 hours. Contacting the activations department again today, I was told nothing had been done yet and that I should follow up after 4pm. Doing so, I was told by the consultant that nothing can be done because my ID is not on the system, and they forwarded me to the sales centre again to enquire about why my details were not on the system. When I asked the Mondo sales agent about the issue, the agent first told me that she cannot assist with Number for Life. When I mentioned the problem about my ID not being on the system, the call was subsequently cut. I am currently unable to reach Mondo now after business hours, and fear that the MTN stores will refuse to assist me for the same reasons mentioned above, and I do not know what route to take to resolve my issue. I am currently paying for a contract which I am unable to use because it is not on my current number, and I would not have taken out this contract had I been told from the start that I would not be able to keep my number. More so, I would not have chosen MTN had I known about the lack of accountability and professionalism rampant throughout this business.
