MTN horribly poor service delivery
I've had the most horrible experience over the past 7 month period with MTN, which is suppose to be the top service provider in South Africa.
The issue began when I moved from my previous company at the end of August 2021 with whom I had a MTN contract through.
When I left the company I completed the necessary documentation and requested MTN to keep my existing number and move the contract to my name along with opening a new package (MTN Mega L - R399).
The process was activated and the contract moved from my previous company into my name, however, the package that I requested did not change and remained the business all day package, which was the package I had through the previous company. This resulted in me being billed more than R700 a month but I was not receiving any data or airtime during this period as the package migration got stuck somewhere between the two MTN I.T systems.
I tried for over two months calling 135, visiting the MTN Hyde Park store and escalating this issue through the MTN customer-care channels, but no one was able to assist me. So in order stop this recurring monthly bill for services I was not receiving, I stopped the contract in January as MTN were not able to give me an answer or assist me, so I managed to get them to move me over to pre-paid sim.
When I stopped the contract, there was still an amount of R2000 linked to the account which was something I had been querying since I received my first bill. The outstanding amount then meant that MTN suspended my services at the end of the month.
This forced me to go to the MTN Fourways branch at the end of February 2022, where a MTN lady was able to unblock the number and said she would escalate the billing query, so I could resume my MTN services.
I've had access for 3 weeks until the end of March 20 when I received the next MTN bill for the out-standing amount which was now R2500 and meant MTN again suspended my services. Even though I had the billing query reference number and tried calling MTN customer-care multiple times which always resulted in them telling me they were not able to assist as they didn't have access to the old MTN Apax system.
I have now after 10 days of calling 135 and seen 6 MTN stores (Hyde park, 2 x Fourways Mall, Morning side, and Nicole Way) had no one able to assist me, so not sure where next to turn.
I am not able to receive or make calls, nor have ave any access to data. MTN say I need to call 136 which I am not able to do as my number is suspended. So I end up in a rabbit hole of backwards and forwards communication and never any progress.
It has become apparent that MTN clearly don't care, the difficulty though is that I now sit in the position where I have a negative credit rating against my RICA name, so I am not able to leave MTN or potentially open up any other accounts in the future.
