MTN **********ly gave my number to someone else

Firstly i give a rating because i am required to, otherwise this service deserves no rating.

15 April 2019 in the evening, tried to return calls of all who have been calling while I was at work and was told i have been barred from using this number. The following morning 16 April, my phone was on emergency calls only. I could not access anything and i was travelling to JHB that same morning. When i arrived at OT Tambo airport, i went to MTN and i was told they have decided to give my number to someone else on the 15th of April. This person has been receiving all my details including banking. Without a care in the world,i was told i must just get a new number. I have been using the number ( ********** 766) since 2008 and suddenly my number has been given to someone else with no valid explanation, this person was given R200 of my airtime and 10GB of data, and i was just told "sorry, this person has even used all of it"

Only to later find the nightmare was only just beginning, on the very same day MTN gave my details to a complete stranger, this person went and opened an ABSA credit card using my details with a limit of R190K and used all it. This person also app**** for a Huawei P30 at Vodacom and app**** for a Nedbank credit American Express Credit card.

I know MTN will not do anything and will just send me their lousy apology. But i am very sure someone (or more) within MTN is running a **** or working with ******** to freely give out details just like that.

And they refused to tell me who did they give my number to. How do you RICA an already RICAd number?

Because of MTN, the police station is now my new home, having to prove to everyone that none of those debts belong to me.

I am beyond upset, i am utterly disgusted with MTN MTN has made my life a living hell.

Good day Itumeleng,

Thank you for your post.

We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience that you experienced as a result of this and we would like to sincerely apologise that you received such poor service

Kindly note as per our telephone conversation, the sim swap was done via ussd and not through the Call Center. Please also note that the number was ported out.

We would like to assure you that we are actively working to improve our service levels.

Warm Regards,
Zanele Mazibuko
