MTN *****

My MTN prepaid SIM Card was hacked yesterday morning at 9;00am. The hackers were able to do a SIM Swap on my behalf and are now controlling my number.

At around 11:00am my What's App deleted automatically from my phone. I called the MTN call Centre. It was only after 3 calls with different people who all very impatinet with me that the last person I spoke to sai they cant reverse the SIM Swap request because of system issues.

The hackers are using my number to send my contact request for cash assistance. The last MTN "Champion" as they call themselves, that I spoke to said she will send me a reference number as my query has been escalated and will block the number in the mean time, as I write now my number is still ringing somewhere which means its still not blocked. Furthermore, my contacts are still receiving cash requests from these hackers.

I have just called MTN again to follow up on the matter, yet again the MTN "Champion" says to me thnat I must go to any branch with an Id and affidavit,as they cant assisit me. So basically they dont know what they are doing at MTN as a day later when I am expecting feedback on the escslation of my query now there are shifting the goal post.

This also happened to 4 other colleagues of mine during the week who are also MTN subscribers.

My 1 million dollar questions to MTN 1. How was a SIM swap request approved by hackers without my verification? 2. Why is my number still ringing somewhere a day later after i have logged a query with MTN? 3. How is MTN going to compensate the monies lost by my contacts? 4. When am I going to get back my number as all my accounts are linked to that number?

I do want to categorically state that MTN is involved in this **** and its evident in the manner they have responded to my query thus far.

My next step is the Ombudsman as I am getting no joy at all from MTN.
