MTN *****

I had purchased a Samsung Galaxy A3 from Edgars on Sat 2 July 2022 and asvised them that I am mostly using Vodacom as this phone was registered with MTN. The sales lady told me that this was not a problem, as this is a dual sim card phone and that I will be able to use my phone with the new MTN card as well as my Vodacom account. I then purchased data through afrihost for MTN as they are contracted with MTN. All was fine until the morning of 6 August when I tried to open my phone to find it locked with the message....."Your MTN sim card cannot be detected or is from a service provider that is not supported. Tru using an active simcard"? I was not happy as I could not access my new phone at all....as per the conversation with MTN via facebook ...

Me: Good day....I bought a Galaxy A3 from Edgars about 3 weeks ago. It has a dual sim card and I am using Vodacom and MTN. All was fine untill this morning. I cannot access my phone at all....it keeps giving me the message "Your sim cannot be defected or is from a servuce provider that isn't supprted. Try using an active MTN SIM card".....I had logged a ticket this morning RAQ***...but still locked. I phoned again and the lady advised that the ticket is still open but that I have to take it to Edgars to have it unlocked?????? Isn't it the service provider that locks the sims? Aĺl my info is on that phone and I cannot accesd any of it. Can someone please unlock the MTN sim as it has my 2G data on it aswell....(sent screenshot of message)

MTN: Hi Wayne,

Please follow the below steps.

1. To disable flight mode when the device is locked click the emergency button. 2. Attempt an emergency call Dial 112. 3. Drop the call

Give it a few seconds then The device will unlock. ~ NM

Me: Still the same

MTN: If you have followed the above steps and you are still unable to use the device, please take it to the point of sale/store for further assistance. ~ NM

Me: Why though. They do not lock sim cards?

MTN: They will book the device for an assessment with our repair center for further assistance. Some devices are network locked and may only use the MTN SIM for a certain time period and if you use a different network the device will be locked. ~ NM

Me: Will this keep happening as I use Vodacom aswell. That was initially my first number?

MTN: Is the device an MTN Phone or another service provider?

Me: This is a MTN phone, but when buying the phone I advised them that I mainly use Vodacom as a primary number. I do however use the MTN card for data

MTN: Please check on the box if the device is network locked, if the device is network locked you may only use an MTN SIM on it for a certain time normally (12 months). ~ NM

Me: (sent a screenshot of a PP barcode number and MTN....)This is all that I can find with regards to MTN...

MTN: Please take the phone to the store and they will assist in booking in for an assessment.

Me: Thanks for your assistance.

I then took the phone Back to Edgards and the same lady who sold me the phone, said that she could not understand why the sim was locked. She tried everything on her side and eventually put het managers sim into my phone to check whether it was the sim itself. One the manager's sim was inside the slot the phone worked? She was then advised to give me a new sim as MTN were responsible for locking the phone???? No other reason given. She gave me a new sim with a new number and my phone is now active. Lost all the data I purchased via Afrihost, but didn't complain as I could access my phone.

Come yesterday I accidentally bought airtime for the old number and asked MTN onve again for assistance to please tranfer the airtime to the new number....

Me: Good day....pls help. i just bought R35 airtime for my phone but accidentally put in the incorrect number *** that was discontinued by MTN. I got a new number last Saturday ***. Is it possible to transfer it to the new number?

MTN: Hi there,

Kindly note, that the mobile number *** was suspended by our ***** team. The ***** team will validate and advise within 24hrs if the line will be unsuspended immediately or left suspended for 30 days when the suspension will be lifted automatically.

We are unable to retrieve the airtime, you will need to wait for 30 days for ***** to lift the suspension.

Me:*****..... for what? I bought a new phone from Edgars and MTN the stupid card because it is a dual sim card phone and I mostly use vodacom. I went to Edgars and they gave me a new sim because you had locked my sim for no reason. I hate your stupid network. You should be sued for *****!

MTN: The number was suspended due to ********** activities, the suspension will be lifted after 30 days.
