I have been a loyal and happy customer of MTN for more than 10 years. However, 2 years ago my wife my wife took up 3 data contracts telephonically from a call centre in Durban. The contract was for R99 p/m for 8 GB data. The contract will expire in December 2026. I received a phone call from MTN on 26/06/09, informing me that the contract will be migrated to a 20GB package at a cost of R160 per contract per month. Effectively I will now pay R180 p/my for the 3 contracts. have no say in the matter. If I do not migrate and take the the new offering, I will continue to pay for the existing contract, but will receive no data!! That to me is ludicrous. At least I expected to be given the option to cancel the existing contract without any penalties to me. To further complicate matters, I can only change anything on the existing contract by speaking to a Representative on the telephone. There is no recourse to go to a MTN office or online. Basically, they want to force my wife to make an immediate decision when contacted telephonically, without any prior knowledge of the situation. I am not happy at all by the way this message was conveyed and the situation handled.
