MTN falsely defamed my credit history and now they won't fix it

I took a contract with MTN and in the midst of it, I was retrenched at work and could no longer afford to pay it. To cut the story short, when I got another job, my account with MTN was handed over to a debt collector(Saya Recoveries). I contacted them and made arrangements to pay. Fast forward, I managed to settle the account in 6 installments for 6 months.

I received a paid-up letter from the debt collector in February 2024, that was the month I finished paying. After going up and down trying to get ahold of MTN to clear my account, I managed to get a paid-up letter from them in July 2024. In September 2024, my credit report was updated and it was added that my account with MTN was in default.

I tried to contact MTN and find out why that was the case and I could not be helped. I visited an MTN store, and also contacted their team on twitter. I received tickets with reference numbers and was promised to received feedback on the issue but ever since then I have never been assisted. I emailed MTN's legal department on the 30th of September and today, it was has been 10 days without a reply from them after I was advised to contact them.

1. MTN falsely put my account in default, therefore ruining my name with the credit bureau. 2. My credit score has been affected even though I have settled the MTN account more than 6 months ago.

In general, my character and profile as a debtor has been defamed. I cannot get ahold of the MTN legal team nor receive any help from them. All I know now is that MTN put my paid up account in default and ruined my credit history. I would advise people to never take a contract with MTN because they are careless when it come to customer services.
