MTN False contract and overall poor service (ref BA***
Good day
My name is Tina Shabangu
Sometime around February 2021, I took up a cellular contract with MTN, my reason for taking a DATA contract was so that my children would be able to continue their online studying.
I was offered a R199/month data contract which in my opinion then was the best available option, the consultant then told me that for the same amount I could get 2 MTN sim cards, which would even work better as I would be able to keep one sim with me whilst at work and leave another sim in a router at home for the kids to do their work after school or whenever I am at work, and as promised after paying R65, 2 sim cards where delivered with which I was happy
However that turned out to be a lie, as an amount of R399 was then later deducted via debit order from my account, upon enquiring with MTN I was then informed that the contract I had “entered” into with that consultant where in actual fact for 2 sim cards which meant 2 separate contracts.
I tried ratifying the error with MTN without any success, so I decided to just continue with both contract, then the sim cards started giving another problem
At any given time only one sim card would work and each time I would have to contact the service provide MTN and only then would the simcard that would not be working at that moment be activated, this have been happening every month.
Since I was not getting any joy as I would be paying for both sim cards but only be able to use one sim, I decided to terminate both contract with MTN, and that was when the misery continued
After calling MTN I was told that there would be penalties that I would have to pay for terminating my contract earlier, and according to someone called Boitumelo on 23rd June 2021from the MTN services call centre the amount would be R2755.18 and that would be for termination of both contracts which equated to R1377.59 per sim / contract. I then deposited the amount on the 26th June 2021 as requested
I then called back on Monday the 28th June 2021 at around 9am to deactivate my sims as per instruction from Boitumelo, I got through another consultant who then unfortunately was not able to assist for whatever reason and promised to send an email to Boitumelo for further assistance
Today the 29th of June 2021 at around 10am, I decided to call to make a follow up as I didn’t get any respond as promised, to which this new consultant (unfortunately I didn’t get her name) then informed me that the amount I paid was insufficient and according to her the contract could not be terminated as the amount I paid was in fact the penalty for just one of the contracts, meaning that I have to pay an additional amount of R2755.18 which does not make sense to me
MTN then debited the very same amount (R2755.18) from my account without my permission that’s after the monthly debit of the 15th of R399
I would appreciate it if Hello Peter could investigate the matter so that I get the matter finalised instead of being sent from pillar to post as this seems to be the only thing that MTN is extremely good at
Kind regards
