MTN expects payment for unrendered service.

I signed for a laptop contract with MTN Hatfield Branch in 2014 for purposes of Studies. I couldn't access Internet from day 1. I notified MTN Hatfield Branch and they changed the Sim Card hoping it'll resolve the problem, unfortunately to no avail. I called the MTN Customer Service, and they said the problem is an un-RICA'd Sim Card. I visited MTN Hatfield Branch again for RICA, they disputed the RICA story and maintained that the Sim Card was RICA'd according to their system, but they changed the Sim Card unfortunately to no avail. Now is 2015, I have been paying for the services I never used except of the laptop that is at my disposal, the University degree I wanted the laptop and Internet Access (3G) for, has been completed already. I just learnt yesterday (22/07/2015) by an sms from a Debt Collection firm that MTN has not been receiving payment from me for the past 3 months and has refered my case for Debt Collection. Moreover my name has been listed with ITC. Moreover MTN wants me to pay a reconnection fee in the excess of R3000-00 for the line that was never connected in the first place. VERY BAD.

Hello gmmbadi,

Thank you for posting.

Please accept our apologies for the late response and for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Our records indicate that the number sim card was rica'd in 2011 however the sim swap processed in January to the current package failed on the network and was processed manually.

The debit order for December was reversed by you in January as we bill you a month in arrears and no subsequent payment was received and the account was thus handed over for none payment per the terms and conditions of the contract. Furthermore there was no request made for the termination of the contract and the contract will remain active until all outstanding amounts are paid in full.

This however has been escalated to our Legal Department and they will contact you for feedback.

Regards,
Nomonde.
