MTN even ignores the consumer council. Being held hostage to substandard service
MTN do not even respond to the consumer council when asked for feedback on poor service. We have received substandard service from MTN for more than a year. MTN do not support their service in some areas which may be because it might not be cost effective for them. When we have load shedding, MTN is down for the 6 to 8 hours that this lasts. After load shedding, batteries (if installed) might be low and we have such a low signal that devices time out. I have submitted documentation and correspondence to the NCC on the matter, who have asked MTN to respond. After months, MTN have failed to do so. It is not fair that customers are held hostage to a contract where the service is not supported. It is not fair that we have to use another ISP for a service we already pay for. It is not fair that customers are required to pay heavy penalties to cancel a service that cannot be used. It is not ethical and South Africans deserve better. I know that MTN do not respond to Hellopeter, but consumer do read it, and I will send MTN a copy.
Because they are only available during office hours Monday to Friday, It is always a huge battle to get them to attend to problems and then it is only a partial resolution and I still have to make use of another ISP for my internet requirements. They have NOT conducted any tests on customer sites. I am willing to do tests for them and to provide these tests, should the network come up.
