MTN doesn't want my business

I'm going to outline my experience below of trying to actually become an MTN customer.

More than a month ago at the end of March, I was looking at the MTN website and saw a really good deal on an MTN contract that comes with a Samsung A70 phone and extra 2GB per month on their lowest contract (in terms of minutes and data etc). I mostly need a new phone and data, and 2.5GB per month is more than enough for my needs. Let me stress, I'm not currently with MTN. So, I click on the deal and I fill out a contact form. Almost 2 weeks later on the 6th of April I finally get a call from an agent working for Rewardco who tracks down the deal for me and lies to me by telling me that even though we're under lockdown, my new phone would still get delivered. Anyway, that doesn't matter that much to me, I could wait. So I sign up for the deal. I expected that I would have gotten an SMS or an email with the contract or some kind of communication about it, but I got nothing. So I waited.

A few weeks later (still under level5 lockdown) I phone MTN to enquire about my new contract. It took a while, but I finally got put through to someone that could help me. They inform me that no, I won't get delivery of my phone under level5 lockdown (as I suspected) but I can expect it as soon as lockdown measures are relaxed. Ok, that's fine, I can wait. I did inquire about why I haven't received any documentation or anything, and she informed me that the contract will come with the phone which I will then have to sign.

Another week or so passed, and we're on level4 lockdown and I'm expecting a courier company to contact me to organize delivery. Obviously that doesn't happen, so I eventually phone and follow up. MTN then informs me that this new contract has been cancelled. It seems the reason is because I never sent any documentation (which nobody ever asked me to do). They tell me that some other department will be able to help me and they take down my details so this dept can phone me. Another day later and no calls from this dept, I follow up myself. The MTN person then tells me that it was Rewardsco that sold me the deal and I should inquire with them. I then phone them and they tell me that yes the deal is cancelled and it's because I didn't meet some criteria by MTN which she is not allowed to disclose to me. I'm presuming this is the documentation (proof of address etc) that I never sent since nobody ever asked me to do that.

It seems like this deal that I wanted and a 2 year contract that I would have signed up with MTN is not going to happen.
