MTN device guaranteed only until it breaks

I received a new Sony E4 from MTN Business mid November 2015. Toward the end of January 2016, the device died on me, with a burning smell and soot on the back cover. It was booked in a few days later for assessment for repair / replacement. After a MONTH of assessing the device, I get told that because it has burnt, it's out of warranty! Over and above that they want to charge me R330 for telling me that it has burnt!

Please could a senior manager look at this situation for me.
I do NOT accept that I have to pay R330 for MTN to tell me that the device has burnt - I told them that when the device was booked in!
I do NOT accept that the device is suddenly out of warranty - if it burnt due to my doing something wrong
then I should be held liable. That is certainly NOT the case here. If a new device has a guarantee and something goes wrong I expect the supplier to honour that warranty.
I am waiting for you to call me back please.

I am a corporate client supporting MTN for many years.
This lack of service is making me re-look at my loyalty to you seriously.

Razaak
TCK Electronics
***
