MTN demands sensitive information for "security reasons" to answer simple query.
MTN has a default way of fobbing off queries about billing. You get this message which demands that you divulge sensitive information over an unsecured email:
Thank you for e-mail customer care. For security purposes kindly fill in the details below in order for us to assist with your query. MTN PIN - surely this should be secret? ID - they have these details in my contract. Address - again they have these details. Bank Name/ or Type of account - are they joking? Do they want my password as well? E-mail address/ work telephone number - my email is on my request and in their records. Kind Regards, Roberto Wagenaar Customer Services MTN SA

30 Oct 2018, 07:17With respect to your (hidden) statement that the PIN is the number needed to interact with MTN.
The point of a PIN is that it is secret. My bank specifically tells me not to disclose my PIN to anyone. Once someone has access to my MTN profile through the PIN that you want me to include in an open email they have the freedom to change my settings and quite possibly to de***** me.
The MTN response does not attempt to explain why they need my banking details and other information. What then is the point of the not so secret PIN?
