MTN deducted R1,430 from my account despite my contract being cancelled
I am extremely dissatisfied with the way MTN has handled the cancellation of my data contract.
I spoke to Lihle Baliwe on 8 April 2026 regarding the cancellation of my one-year data contract. I was specifically advised that the cancellation would take effect on 6 May 2026, as MTN requires 20 business days' notice.
My last legitimate debit was on 27 May 2026, yet MTN continued attempting to debit my account even after I had been advised that the contract would be cancelled. I reversed some of the previous debit attempts while trying to resolve the issue, but unfortunately I kept putting off contacting MTN again to find out why the debits were still happening.
Now, MTN has deducted a massive R1,430 from my account, and I am currently unable to reverse or dispute the debit through my bank.
What is extremely frustrating is that I specifically contacted MTN in April and was given confirmation regarding the cancellation. If I was told that my account would be cancelled, why has MTN continued billing me and now deducted R1,430 from my account?
I have been a loyal customer and have always paid account on time. I do not believe I should be charged for services after the date I was advised that my contract would be cancelled.
I am requesting that MTN urgently investigate my account, provide me with a full breakdown of the R1,430 debit, confirm the actual cancellation date on their system, and refund any amounts that were incorrectly deducted. I also want confirmation that no further debit orders will be processed against this account.
This experience has been incredibly disappointing and has seriously damaged my trust in MTN. I expect this matter to be taken seriously and resolved as soon as possible.
I want Management to contact me!!!
