MTN DEBITING MY ACCOUNT FOR NO SERVICE
My one kid had a contract with MTN that ended in 2012, but the contract was never formally cancelled and MTN converted it to a month to month service. For the past 10 years, I accepted the debit thinking that the number was still active and the SIM card perhaps in an Ipad, but recently asked my kid to take over the payments. To my horror, my kid moved on to another service provider and MTN has had the benefit of more than R14 000 of my money for providing no service. I have tried several ways to sort this out. The call center is farcical, and I wasted nearly an hour of expensive airtime waiting, waiting and then talking to the most unhelpful people, and they eventually cut me off. I then went to the Centurion MTN shop who told me that they cannot cancel this debit and that I must go to the Menlyn shop to get the debit cancelled. I called MTN Menlyn to confirm that they will do the cancellation (and they can), but said I could go to Centurion and they will help me! Conclusion: MTM's Call Centre is a waste of time, the shop in Centurion is either too lazy to help or don't know their jobs, and/or the Menlyn main branch don't know their jobs. My advice is to never, ever sign a debit order, unless you have FULLY read the entire fine print and agree with it, secondly think twice about entering into a cell contract and go pay as you go as far as possible.
