In Novemebr I went to the MTN Hyde Park store to cancel two contracts (my 2 kids) because the one's handset had been damaged beyond repair and the other was ****** (no insurance). At the store I was made to dial into the retentions/cancellations call centre and, because these were sim only contracts, they convinced me to upgrade and add new handsets which I accepted. Part of this conversation was that I needed to phone back in January because they wouldn't be able to process and deliver the phones till the new year.
In early Jn, I called again to arrange for the phones but was told there was not stock of the iPhone 7 and that I should go back to the store where, if they had stock, they would assist straight away. At the store, they were reluctant to assist so I went to the Rosebank store and got the same attitude and service from there.
I again called retentions and now I'm being to d that they cant assist because the contracts are only upgradable at the end of the year which means I've paid for 3 months of contracts which we just haven't been able to use. Also, the fee to cancel is still R300.
I just cannot understand how companies get away with such ******** behaviour. I've been dupped into paying an additional 3 months of completely useless contracts when All I wanted was to cancel the contract back in November. Surely there must be some governing body that protects consumers against this kind of behaviour. This is short of ******* and I'm absolutely disgusted (but not surprised) I've been treated this way by a company who I've done business with for 30 years!
I know have to go back to the store, call cancellations and retentions again; a settlement figure from them again and pay it directly to the store to have the contracts cancelled....exactly what I did in early November!...only I've paid R 600 of additional contract fees since and still not able to make a call or send an sms!
Come on MTN...get your **** together and stop *****ing from us!!!
