MTN data bundle hack and the worst customer service you can imagine!
On the 27th of April, my husband's data contract was hacked. We saw the transactions as they came through and immediately went onto the MTN app and cancelled all the data share connections they were trying to establish. We couldn't prevent them from purchasing data bundles to an amount of R6,000, but we prevented them from moving the data out of the account. We immediately contacted MTN on 083 135 and raised an alert. Since then it has been an absolute mission to get the issue addressed or resolved by MTN. My husband calls regularly. We've been to the Cresta branch on numerous occassions. All we asked was that they reverse the data bundles, as we don't want the data. It would be no loss to this massive organisation, as it is merely a reversal. We were told the situation was being escalated, but nothing happened. To this day, 6 weeks later, MTN has not made a single call to us, but we have made every possible attempt to get the issue resolved. And then today, on the payment date, they withdrew the money for the purchase from our account. After 6+ weeks of constantly following up with absolutely no answer, no resolve, they just went ahead and withdrew the money. It is not as if we have the money to just pay and write it off. We have not even touched the data bundles, as we want MTN to just reverse them. They didn't lose anything! We are exasperated and don't know what more to do. Unfortunately we don't have "connections" at MTN to help us get the situation sorted out. All we ask is for someone at MTN to actually give a damn. The people at Cresta branch could do nothing to assist and all you hear ALL THE TIME, is please dial 135.
