MTN Customer Service & Upgrades Department – Relentless Harassment and Shockingly Unprofessional Conduct
I have reached the point where dealing with MTN’s upgrades department feels less like customer service and more like harassment.
For weeks (if not months), I have been receiving repeated calls from MTN or so-called “authorised agents” relentlessly trying to push contract upgrades that I never requested and have shown zero interest in. Daily calls. Constant interruptions. Persistent sales pressure that borders on absurd.
Today, however, was the final straw.
I received yet another unsolicited call regarding an upgrade — once again, without me ever making first contact or requesting engagement. I politely declined the offer and attempted to ask the consultant to remove my number from their calling lists and stop contacting me.
Before I could even finish my sentence, the agent simply hung up in my ear.
That level of disrespect is genuinely staggering.
You cold-call customers repeatedly, ignore the fact that they clearly do not want to be contacted, and then when someone finally tries to exercise their right to opt out, your representative cuts the call rather than doing their job? That is not customer service. That is incompetence mixed with outright disrespect.
At this point, I am deeply concerned about how my personal information is being used, shared, or accessed internally by MTN and its “authorised” sales network. I never consented to becoming a daily target for aggressive upgrade calls.
The **POPI Act** exists for a reason. Consumers have the right to request that direct marketing cease, and companies are expected to respect that request — not disconnect the call mid-sentence.
MTN needs to seriously address the behaviour of its upgrades department and affiliated agents. Because from a customer perspective, this experience has been nothing short of invasive, frustrating, and embarrassingly unprofessional.
Stop the calls. Remove my details from your marketing systems. Train your staff to behave like professionals.
