MTN Customer Service
My mother has a MTN contract. In order to accommodate her budget, she downgraded to a cheaper contract, during September. However, she ran out of data and had to purchase extra data, twice in one month.. She was then contacted by MTN customer service tele-marketing in October. They offered her an upgraded contract with more data and a "free laptop". They told her that the monthly cost of this contract would be R400 per month. They e-mailed her a contract without any mention of the contract price. They also did not answer my e-mail in this regard to inquire about the contract cost. She has not signed any contract in writing, the electronic contract just states that it was "acknowledged" by her. To my surprise, when she received her next monthly bill end of November, the laptop is charged at R260 per month and her monthly contract cost is now over R600, and this for a period for 36 months. This after she had to cut down on her expenses and was expecting a free laptop. My sister took her to the shop in The Grove, Pretoria and they refused to cancel the contract, telling her that she was under no obligation to have agreed to the new contract. However, they falsely made her believe that she would receive a free laptop and conned her into this contract. This is not how to treat a 82 year old customer, which can hardly understand her phone, leave alone a laptop! I am really shocked and dissatisfied by their customer service.
