MTN contract is a **** - blocks calls even when up to date

Im so disappointed in MTN, I won't be taking any further contracts with them. How does MTN block my phones from working even after paying monthly instalments? They even added extra charge on my bill. I'm done with MTN, call center said I should not worry about doublw billing but now I'm locked out even though I paid.
