MTN Contract changes without concent
I feel have i have to start this post by stating that I have been a MTN customer for 17 years, joined them back in the day when they were still "the better connection".
Quite a few years ago I signed up for a data package with MTN, over and above the then 2 cellphone contracts already in place at the time. The package I was on worked for me, quite slow, but reliable and fine for browsing the internet or sending emails and giving the kid access to the internet on his tablet etc (think it was called Mtn lite or something).
Now, I have in the past, received a call to ask if I would like to upgrade, which I kindly declined. It worked for me, so why change it?
Tonight I get home to find that after my phone connected to the wifi, it asked for additional authorization. I quickly pop into my phones web browser to see if I have connectivity. I am then presented with an MTN site that tells me I have no data and gives me the convenient option of buying some. I then open my laptop to check if it's browser works l, but presented with the same site.
After a 27min conversation with the agent, she confirms that my contract had indeed run out of data. It turns out that, according to the agent, MTN decided that the product has now reached end of life and shifted me into the package that they feel would suite me best. Dear MTN, I was on the package that's suites me best, thus the decision not to upgrade. How are you able to simply make changes, without my concent or even notifying me of such changes ahead of time?
Thank you for the post and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. Your loyalty with MTN all these years is highly appreciated.
Kindly note that an sms and email were sent to your number and to the email *** on the 30 August 2019 informing you of the discontinuity of the Broadband Lite package. Different options were presented on the email however due to response from your side your package was then migrated to the default package.
If your email address has changed please let us know by contacting our Call Centre on 135 or by sending an email to *** so we can keep your details updated.
We are unfortunately unable to put you back on the Broadband lite package as it has been discontinued and not longer supported by the Network.
We trust you will find the above in order.
Kind Regards,
