MTN Contract Cancellation is an Apocalyptic Disaster
Let's start with a positive. The network is good. At least in my area. But their prices are **********. Telkom just started to offer Data SIM deals for our area, opened a Telkom shop in the mall next to Vodacom. Still no MTN shop.... Anyway, Telkom's prices are 3 times cheaper that MTN, with speeds slightly slower. (Still north of 20 Mbps - MTN was close to 40 Mbps...) - This brings me to the reason for my complaint. Cancelling a contract at MTN. What an Apocalyptical disaster !!
You can ONLY do it via PHONE. Not via App, email and NOT in their shops. Drove long way to MTN shop but they laugh and even admin it is bad, "Sorry Sir no phone call no cancel, sorry very bad" If the call was quick and efficient, no problem. But you have to wait more than 30min most cases to get through. Then you are only IDd (vetted) and then only passed to a Cancellation consultant that is properly mandated (Sometimes you are back in the Q waiting for this again!!) After this you are given the "damages/penalty" you have to pay and details how to make payment. You have to wait 3 days for payment to show and then go through process again. It took me 14 Calls !!!!, spending hours on the phone. They don't work after hours and don't work weekends. TRULY PATHETIC.
