MTN contract cancellation

Sorry, this is a bit long winded, but it gives all the details of all my efforts to stop a data contract with MTN after it expired. I thought a 24 month contract would be valid for only 24 months only, but for them it is only the price that is fixed for 24 months, after that they increase the price nearly four fold, and merrily continues to plunder my bank account. According to them you must give them 1 month's notice to cancel, but they make it impossible for you to cancel. This actually amounts to theft. Below the full saga: • Signed a 24 month contract for data on September 2020 • Contract expired Oct 2022 • Noticed that MTN took 3.7X the amount out of my account • Phoned them, and was told that I must give them 1 month notice to cancel the account, and until such time they will take the new amount out of my bank account. Said I must phone 083 135 to cancel • Phoned 083 135 on the 11 Oct 2022 at 08h04, and eventually got to the option for “Cancellations”. Call was dropped after 15 minutes • Phoned again at 08h30, and the call was again dropped after waiting on the line for 14 minute and 58 seconds. • Send an e-mail e-mail to customer care at 08h38 on the 11 Oct, and got an automatic response back a minute later saying that someone will contact me, Ref No: d6b86f6f-1c52-42d6-a5a7-bb98e26dc056, and that this response will be within 24 hours • Received an e-mail from Edward Phaka saying I need to phone the 083 135 number, or send an e-mail to Retentions/Cancellation. • I responded via e-mail and pointed out to him that the 135 number is not working, as nobody answers the call, and asked what must be done to escalate the complaint. • Received an e-mail from Thobekile Khuzwayo on the 13 Oct at 08h43, saying “The below has been escalated to the retentions/cancellations department and they will contact you for feedback “, and again telling me that I can call the 083 135 number. • On the 17 Oct I send them their response from the 11 Oct, and again asked them to sort the matter out. No response. • On the 1 Nov they again deducted the inflated amount from my account, and I then gave my bank instruction to reverse any future payments • The Dec amount was reversed, and I thought that that would get their attention, but that happened was that they took double the amount out in January (which my bank will again reverse).
