MTN contract cancellation: 2+ months of phone calls and R639 ******

Before we begin I have 3 numbers with MTN 1st number on a My MTNChoice 80GB contract that is fine. 2nd number on a My MTNChoice Zero month-to-month that is fine. 3rd number is the one MTN has completely *****'d up and broken and ****** me on.

In the 2nd half of Nov 2021 I went to an MTN store to cancel a 2 year contract (My MTNChoice 10GB for R299pm) that was nearly at the end of its 2 year run. Note, I had already done this successfully instore in the middle of 2021 with another contract. The MTN agent told me if I cancel now I'll get an early cancellaton fee and that I must rather phone 135 on the first December.

This is the abbreviated story off what happens over the next 2+ months: 1st December 2021 I phone 135 and ask for the contract to be cancelled. I went it the same as my other number on a zero rated NO rands per month setup. I'm assured it will be. I even get an sms stating my contract will be cancelled at the end of the month.

I also get an sms that my contact term has ended and that it will be moved from my R299pm contact to a month to month contract that turns our to be R539pm.

I make multiple phone calls to MTN throughout December checking up on the cancelation and to confirm it is no longer on this contract and I will be on a on a zero rated SIM just like my other SIM.

22nd Dec I get a phone call from a MTN agent to confirm that this number has indeed been cancelled from contact and that both these numbers are on the same My MTNChoice Zero month to month package and it won't cost me anything per month but I will have to buy minutes and data when needed.

1st Jan 2022: R539 debited from me.

Multiple phone calls again to 135 with mixed information again that it's cancelled or not cancelled or a mistake was made etc. Another SMS on the 11th Jan stating that the contract will be cancelled on 11th Jan. More phone calls trying to get a refund for this R539 throughout January 2022. I then get the bill due 1st Feb and see that there is an Early Cancellation fee of R100. I phone 135 again to ask what this new fee is for.

After multiple phone calls and different stories it appears my number was fully cancelled to a pay as you go without my consent and that is what the fee is for. I'm still trying to recover the money but I'm being told I need the number to be back on the My MTNChoice Zero month to month before they can access this info. I have a ticket open that said it would take 24 hours to move this back from pay as you go to My MTNChoice Zero which is over a week old and phoning in gets me no where.

1st Feb 2022: R100 taken from my account for early cancellation of a month to month SIM for which I was already over charged R539 because they didn't cancel the original My MTNChoice 10GB in time.

Yes, that is the brief version. I have multiple reference numbers and a few emails but the longer this goes on the further problems these people create.
