I got an iPhone contract around the time when the MTN call centres were on strike. Because of that I could never activate the SIM card every time I tried calling. I eventually I gave up. I ended up losing the sim card and recently I went in store to try and do a sim swap. In store, I was told that I couldn't do a sim swap because my account had been handed over to legal. That meant my account was outstanding so I tried to figure out why. The store told me that legal would give me a call, and this was two weeks ago. Upon further research I realized that MTN had not debited for my contract since February. I have sufficient funds in my bank account but there is no debit being made and MTN didn't even bother giving me a courtesy call before handing my account over to legal.

After two weeks of trying to get a response from the MTN Legal dept so as to figure out how this was happening, I finally got an email that simply said "The outstanding balance is R1,466." First of all, if I hadn't wanted to do a sim swap, would I have been told that my account has been handed to Legal?

Secondly, don't I deserve some sort of a statement that will formally inform me of my outstanding balance and also the interest charges I might have incurred?
